This was surprising for me I usually am not a into ghost books for the most part but looking at the comments that I was able to find for this story and I did read the sample first just to see if I liked it One of the things that did draw me to the story was that Tony who is the main character and the one with the ghost abilities it's also a butch that really got my attention now she's not your typical butch though and I will get into that in the minuteWhat I liked about the story and what it remind me of and I don't know if anyone else ever did watch this in the past but this was one of my favorite TV shows and this definitely reminds me of that show which was called Ghost whispers they start in 2005 to 2010 and I love that show I did eventually find that show a little late into her cycle I think I found that show somewhere around season 2 maybe 3 so I had got season 1 on DVD The point is this book feels like that just it's a London version it's a gay version is a little bit more humor involved but it has the same premise A woman is giving the power she can see ghosts and interact with the supernatural her job is to go around and help these ghosts pass on they're also evil entities that prevent her from doing her job now I haven't seen that with Tony just yet but I know that she probably will come across some evil spirits I think in book two but that's the premise of both show and book and I felt very familiar once I understood Tony's ability so far It is definitely sounds like that TV show like I said the book is just a lesbian Tony's Butch (and not a straight woman white woman that's married to a man) but the premise is the same Tony has a job that she does Tony has a best friend who's also a sidekick who also can hear the ghost but can't see them eventually a love interest who is a natural herbalist I think the relationship throughout the good and the bad was handled like an adult not like some cheesy teenager stuff so that was good and it wasn't necessarily a back and forth I think they got back together in my opinion at the end of the book too quickly I would have loved a more long and drawn out conclusion to that especially after with the herbalist did she was in the previous relationship I will say before they got back together and I felt like this should have been more time put between all of that that is a spoiler so sorry But other than that I enjoyed the book for what it is was which was a person coming into their abilities Tony and learning about what it means to be a supernatural detective I hope Tony develops skills as an actual detective because right now she just stumbling around if I'm being honest but it wasn't chaotic didn't make her look stupid or anything like that but I do hope to see her eventually get a rhythm going understanding how to do the research understanding how to go about doing things and keeping herself safe at the same timeNow I won't say negative points but this stuck out to me like I said before Tony is not your usual Butch most Butch characters are strong and confident and Tony is these things I should say But Tony can also be a little wimpy and she gets scared and there's nothing wrong with that that shows that she's human but Tony sometimes lacks a backbone at least when it comes to the people she love and I hope to see her stand up for herself a little bit more or at least offend her actions a little bit better I didn't catch a lot of that in this book but I can see it there just because she's not a typical Butch So I would love to see just more of her growing into herself and being more confident she's definitely not as confident as a usual butch would be so your typical trope I can handle that type of Butch character that you enjoy reading yeah That's not Tony but if you looking for a character who is a Butch who's confident in how she presents herself to the world but also has things that make her nervous things that make her scared even finding out about ghost or just your typical human reactions that are normal then this is your girl if you like funniness and human mixed in with well a little bit of drama and action I guess This is not the fighting kind of action but the supernatural involved then this is the book I enjoyed it for what I got it for which is five bucks I actually was surprised how well it was done I definitely have already bought the sequel so that's why I said I'm looking forward to seeing Tony grow more as a person Tony is brave though she cares more about protecting her friends and family then herself So she might let things go with herself but when it comes to her family and friends Tony would fight to death for them and I think that is an admirable thing to be. And I found book on the publishing site I saw that a third book it on way and I was curious about it after I read the summary and that's just how I found the book think it's called bold strokes is who published the books and that is how I found it cuz I was on their website looking for books so I came to Amazon. Amazon had it for $5 and there you go got the sequel for five as well so it's a good story A little bit out of my comfort zone as far as the supernatural thing concerned I love supernaturals just usually not ghost though More like vampires and werewolves kind of supernatural girl I am.Oh and I also want to express this because out of all the comments I read no one really gave a good detailed of this book and I'm going to try not to spoil it but for those who do not like to read a character like Tony she does answer to women pronouns and man pronouns most people who see her for the first time thinks that she's a guy so if you don't like that that might be a problem for you but for me I didn't find a problem with it. I thought it was very unique I don't find a lot of stories that do that for the most part. But Tony I think do identify as a woman but she does not get upset if people call her boy or dude or even a mistake her as a guy right off the bat there's a character that she works with that called boy and she didn't get upset it's something that happens on a regular basis for her and she just rolls with it So I thought I'd put that in there as well for people who do like that and people who don't.Also Tony's love interest Express several times that she loves women that are more masculine and more butch so there is definitely an attraction for her as far as why she likes Tony The love interest like I can't figure her name right now like I said is a herbalist she does some things throughout the story that I didn't care for and that's why I said I really wish them getting back together was a little bit more slower a little bit more realistic also. it also explains why I say Tony doesn't necessarily have a backbone because some of this instance that happens between them down the road The herbalist does have genuine reasons for acting the way she does but I felt like Tony didn't do a good job defending her actions or at least defending herself in general So that explains my initial review up top I don't know if that's going to spoiler or not but just be aware of that. But outside of that the relationship is handled like two adults. Even though there's some parts I did not agree withOh and if you're here for smut yeah that's not the story either there's like fades to black not a lot of details it's not that type of book
